GVBR - Home

Krista and I went on the 2001 Great Victorian Bike Ride from Rutherglen to Lilydale via lots of hills. We both did a reasonable amount of training on the indoor trainer, and we did a few longer outdoor training rides including a rather warm 60 km ride with Sophie (Krista's friend) and David (Sophie's dad) followed by a 90 km ride along the Dandenong Creek trail and Beach Rd.

The ride went for 9 days and we stayed at Wangaratta (Day 1), Dederang (Day 2), Bright (Day 3 and 4), Whitfield (Day 5), Mansfield (Day 6), Yea (Day 7) and Marysville (Day 8) en route from Rutherglen to Lilydale. Some other highlights were Tawonga Gap, Powers Lookout (which we didn't actually go to, but attained the same elevation ...) and the Black Spur.

This journal was written a week after the ride, so feel free to let me know of any misrepresentations, errors of fact or omissions. David has also written his own ride journal. Note that Netscape mangles the navigation menu somewhat.
