Psychology 2011 1997 Lab Week 1 Review Summary
These pages are demonstration pages of mixed mode deli
very
for an on-campus course. The curriculum and course structure has changed
substantially for 1998, but these pages have been retained here
as an example of a particular use of the Web in teaching.
Introduction to WWW and Newsgroups (and other stuff)
This is the first of the weekly summaries that should appear by Friday afternoon
or (at worst) Monday morning after each week of lab. Please review
"what happened" in the PSY2011 labs during the week, and check that you are clear
on the task sets as homework, or those lab program requirements to be completed
by the end of the week.
The first lab, as you are all well aware, was really an introductory session
to the course, and specifically, to the lab program. Furthermore, we acquainted
you with the Psychology WWW material and newsgroups, introducing you to
the necessary Web and Newsgroup skills that we will expect you to acquire by
the end of week 4 (just before Easter).
At this stage do not panic if much of what we went
through this week passed
you by. There will be ample opportunity in the lab times in Week 2 and Week 4
to go over material presented in small groups or on an individual basis. The
key thing is not to feel too daunted by all this "computer stuff" - we are interested
in teaching you about Psychology. Computers are merely a tool, and the computer
skills you will acquire may facilitate the learning of psychological content.
Below is a list of things we covered in the first lab, and we would ask that by week
4 you will know and understand what we mean by these terms and be confident
in using the WWW and Newsgroups.

Students should have some level of understanding on the following;
- Concepts of Pages/Sites, site addresses

Students should have some level of understanding on the following;

the week;

monash.psych.psy2011.labs
Computer Attitude Survey
Before the end of the week each student was to complete the CAS
survey on the web.

- Sign up library tutorial.
- Register computer account.
- Post to monash.psych.test newsgroup.
- Complete CAS survey
- Personal learning objectives, and how you intend to achieve them

That's all folks. As I have said earlier, don't worry too much about
the computer skills. We are here to help you learn what you need to know.
