Psychology 2011 1997 Lab Week 4 Summary
These pages are demonstration pages of mixed mode deli
very
for an on-campus course. The curriculum and course structure has changed
substantially for 1998, but these pages have been retained here
as an example of a particular use of the Web in teaching.
CAS DATA WORKSHOP
Prior to attending the lab it was expected that class members would have
considered/completed the following;
Generated plausible hypotheses from their reading of at least 2-3 relevant
articles/abstracts and therefore chosen which IVs and DVs you were
investigating. In doing this you should then have determined or considered
which analysis would be appropriate in examining your hypotheses.
Hopefully you were then able to conduct any statistical (eg. means, SDS, STE,
t-tests) analyses required and (maybe?) even graphed the results to be presented
in the report.
Short Report Guidelines
The information below replicates the information on the short report
on the PSY2011 Lab Program Assessment
web page.
Remember a short report is not a condensed version of a long report
but it should include the following;
- A brief Introduction section citing a couple of the
major findings in the area under investigation leading to,
- the Aims of the study and establishing the experimental Hypotheses
(approx. 250 words)
- A very concise, bare bones method section (approx. 100 words)
should precede the presentation of a Results section which summarises
the trends of the data in either table or figure form, accompanied
by a good description (approx. 250 words)
- Statistical analysis is not required but any data presented
must be described in relation to your hypotheses, any substantive
comments must be backed by statistical evidence. Conditions can only
differ significantly if we have conducted the appropriate statistical test
to provide evidence for such a claim.
- A formal discussion section is not required. However a summary of
the findings should be provided and detailed suggestions for
further research in the area provided (approx. 150 words). Please
note one of our pet dislikes by 2011 markers is a final sentence of
any written work that goes something like this "Future research is neede in
this area (FULL STOP!!)". Don't do it!
The suggested length of report is 750 words maximum. The above
word count guidleines are suggestions not rules, and it may be that
for example you combine the Results/Summary sections?
The report is due in Monday, April 14th, 1997, 12:00 noon (remember this
floating deadline) at the General Office. Remember to cover the
report with an assignment cover sheet.
There will be time this week in labs to go over any queries on the format,
structure and composition of the short report.
