Psychology 2011 1997 Lab Week 10 Summary
These pages are demonstration pages of mixed mode deli
very
for an on-campus course. The curriculum and course structure has changed
substantially for 1998, but these pages have been retained here
as an example of a particular use of the Web in teaching.
SPSS TUTORIAL
The exercises covered one-way and one-way with repeated measures
ANOVAs. It was both surprising and a tad disappointing to see many people
running through the exercises and being satisfied with obtaining
the "correct" answer, without giving any thought or consideration
to what these tests are actually examining with respect to the
data. It is not enough to say we have a significant or non-significant F
value - you must then be able to state what that actually means with respect
to the research question.
Furthermore, many of you had forgotten basic labelling
procedures from the first tutorial two weeks ago. You should now be proficient at
labelling variables appropriately using the DEFINE variables options. Another tip
is to take care when "shunting" variables into the
DEPENDENT and FACTOR boxes as part of the analyses process. Incorrect "shunting" can
lead to bizarre df, MS and F ratio values all affecting your F significant value.
At the end of this tutorial it is anticipated that you will be
knowledgeable and confident in setting up datafiles for both one-way and one-way
repeated ANOVAs, conducting these tests, reading the output clearly to
understand the statistical result, and being able to relate that back to the
research question.
Behaviour & Heredity Laboratory
Details on what was covered in this section of the lab can be found at
Behaviour And Heredity Laboratory.
A summary of some of the discussion points raised in the labs on the
two Genetic Counselling Scenarios will appear early next week here. Again
the manner in which most groups approached these issues and the points raised
was most pleasing. Good lab diary material folks!!
Results from the mini mini quiz will be avaible in the next few weeks.
Remember in preparation for the labs next week please read the
APS Code of Professional
Conduct.
